“Être là, c’est vivre une expérience”, telle est la devise de tous les festivals qui se déroulent en ce moment, et le festival “Nuits Cajun” est devenu, malgré l’annulation de Ton Gris Gris, -inattendu-, un grand week-end.
Pendant 13 ans, j’ai été un fidèle du festival de Saulieu, cette sensation, l’entourage, le succès, c’est inégalable, d’autant que nous sommes tous remplis de merveilleux souvenirs. Avant le début du festival, nous avions déjà appris que l’un des groupes préférés des danseurs de zydeco ne viendrait pas en raison de circonstances familiales, ce qui a mis un bémol à la fête.
Parcourant la région avec des vacanciers qui étaient nos hôtes l’année dernière, nous étions déjà passés par Saint Sernin Du Bois et nous nous étions arrêtés à Zaal Polyvalente où l’édition 2019 avait eu lieu. Un endroit magnifique au bord du lac avec une immense piste de danse.
Cette grande piste de danse est particulièrement importante en France en raison de l’enthousiasme des danseurs. Dès qu’un groupe commence à jouer, la piste de danse est pleine. Les cours de danse font partie du festival chaque année et cette année encore, le professeur de danse des “Nuits Cajun” était Sylviane Jean et Bernard Guihard, ce qu’ils font depuis 2005. De plus, la participation était gratuite et j’ai également participé à l’enseignement de la danse zydeco afin d’équilibrer le nombre d’hommes et de femmes.
À chaque festival Cajun & Zydeco, ces quatre ingrédients sont importants : la musique, la danse, la nourriture et les boissons et, … les rencontres entre amis (et les nouvelles rencontres).
Nous avons déjà parlé de la danse, de la cuisine cajun fournie par le restaurant local du Château et, bien sûr, du style cajun.
Et puis cet élément … rencontrer des amis (se faire de nouveaux amis).
Je peux dire sans me tromper que c’est l’ingrédient n°1 le plus important de tout festival. Par le passé, j’ai réalisé moi-même des enregistrements vidéo de certains festivals. Chaque fois que j’ai tourné des séquences en direct des groupes, entrecoupées de séquences du public, j’ai constaté, grâce à la fonction d’analyse vidéo de YouTube, que la vidéo était répétée de nombreuses fois, … lorsque le public était dans l’image.
Cette année, rencontrer un ami était un facteur encore plus important car il n’y avait pas eu de festival pendant deux -longues- années. Et cet ingrédient, que j’ai entendu et goûté de ma propre expérience, était le plus important du festival 2022. D’où mon slogan : “Être là, c’est vivre une expérience”.
Didier Lonjard s’est engagé dans l’organisation de la 27ème édition des “Nuits Cajun”. L’idée de ce festival, qui attire un public de France mais aussi de Belgique, d’Angleterre et d’Allemagne, est de le rendre durable à long terme et d’impliquer les habitants”, espère Didier Lonjard. Le festival 2022 a été organisé avec l’aide du département de Saône-et-Loire, de la municipalité et des commerçants de Saint-Sernin, peut-on lire dans le journal.
Pourquoi suis-je heureux d’avoir “été là” ?
Si vous voulez organiser un événement comme celui-ci, l’intérêt du public est l’ingrédient numéro un absolu pour en faire un succès. Tous ceux qui sont restés chez eux parce qu’il n’y avait pas de groupe américain au programme sont les perdants, la musique cajun ne manque pas et Blue Bayou joue toujours un bon rythme de danse zydeco pour l’équilibre entre cajun et zydeo.
La chose la plus importante : “Il y a un festival” !
Au moment où les premiers plans ont été élaborés, il n’était pas du tout certain qu’un festival puisse avoir lieu, ai-je pu lire dans la bouche de Didier. Et même maintenant, nous avons appris que la traditionnelle tournée des festivals en Allemagne n’a pas pu avoir lieu, alors un grand “Chapeau” à toute l’organisation !
Le camping temporaire était situé à quelques centaines de mètres du festival, et le dimanche, nous avons également été surpris par un agréable marché aux puces. Il y avait une douche et des toilettes à une courte distance. Le magasin local, situé à 10 minutes à pied, fournissait le pain. Les festivaliers ne manquaient donc de rien, sauf du manque d’amis auquel on aurait pu s’attendre, … en fait. (“Être là, c’est faire l’expérience”)

I was a loyal Saulieu festival visitor for 13 years. The feeling, the entourage, the success, it is unmatchable, especially since we are all full of wonderful memories. Before the festival began, we had already learned that one of the favorite bands of the zydeco dancers would not be coming due to family circumstances, a damper on the party.
Traveling through the region with vacation makers who were our guests last year, we had already passed through Saint Sernin Du Bois and had stopped at Hall Polyvalente where the 2019 edition had taken place. A beautiful location located on the lake with a huge dance floor.
That large dance floor is especially important in France given the enthusiasm of the dancers, as soon as a band starts playing the dance floor is full. Dance lessons are part of the festival every year and this year the dance instructor for the “Nuits Cajun” was again Sylviane Jean and Bernard Guihard, something they have been doing since 2005. I can safely say than this is the most important #1. ingredient of any festival. In the past I have done some video recording of some festivals myself. Each time I shot live footage of the bands, interspersed with footage of the audience, I saw with the YouTube video analysis feature that the video kept replaying many times, … when the audience was in the picture.
This year, meeting friend was an even more important factor because there had been no festival for two -long- years. And this very ingredient, of that I heard and tasted from my own experience, was the most important of the 2022 festival. Hence my slogan; “To be there is to experience”.

At the time the first plans were made it was not at all certain whether a festival would take place at all. And even now we heard that the traditional Festival Tour in Germany could not take place, so a big “Chapeau” to the entire organization!
The temporary campsite was located a short walk away from the festival, a few hundred meters, and on Sunday we were also surprised by a cozy flea market. There was the possibility to shower and toilet at short distance. The local store at 10 minutes walking distance supplied the bread, so the festival goers lacked nothing, except, the lack of friends that one would have expected here, … actually. “Er bij zijn is beleven”, dat mag wel het moto genoemd worden voor elk festival dat momenteel plaats vind en ook bij het “Nuis Cajun” festival werd ondanks de uitval van Ton Ton Gris Gris het, -onverwacht- toch een geweldig weekend.
13 jaar was ik een trouwe Saulieu festival bezoeker, dat gevoel, de entourage, het succes, dat is niet te evenaren, vooral omdat we allemaal boordevol zitten met prachtige herinneringen. Voordat het festival begon hadden we al vernomen dat èèn van de favoriete bands van de zydeco dansers niet zou komen vanwege familie omstandigheden, een domper op de feestvreugde.
Op reis door de regio met vakantie vierders die bij ons te gast waren vorig jaar waren we al door Saint Sernin Du Bois gekomen en waren we even gestopt bij Zaal Polyvalente waar de editie van 2019 had plaatsgevonden. Een mooie lokatie gelegen aan het meertje met een enorme dansvloer.
Die grote dansvloer is vooral in Frankrijk belangrijk, gezien het animo van de dansers, zo gauw als een band begint te spelen staat de dansvloer vol. Danslessen maken elk jaar deel uit van het festival en ook dit jaar werden de dansinstructeur van de “Nuits Cajun” weer verzorgd door Sylviane Jean en Bernard Guihard, iets wat ze al doen sinds 2005. Bovendien was de deelname gratis en aan de zydeco dans instructie heb ik zelf ook nog deelgenomen om het heren en dames aantal in balans te brengen.
Bij elk Cajun & Zydeco festival zijn deze vier ingrediënten van belang; muziek, dansen, eten en drinken en, … vrienden ontmoeten (nieuwe vrienden maken).
Over het dansen hebben we al gesproken, de cajun keuken werd verzorgd door het plaatselijk Restaurant du Château en natuurlijk in Cajun stijl.

Ik kan gerust stellen dan dit het belangrijkste #1. ingrediënt is van elk festival. In het verleden heb ik zelf ook al eens wat video opnames gemaakt van enkele festivals. Elke keer als ik live opnamen van de bands maakte, afgewisseld met opnames van het publiek zag ik met de YouTube video analyse functie dat de video steeds vele malen opnieuw werd herhaald, … als het publiek in beeld was.
Dit jaar was het ontmoeten van vriend nog een nog belangrijkere factor omdat er twee -lange- jaren geen enkele festival heeft plaatsgevonden. En juist dit ingrediënt, daarvan hoorde en proefde ik uit eigen ervaring, was het belangrijkste van het 2022 festival. Vandaar mijn slogan; “Er bij zijn is beleven”.

Dit feest van 2022 werdt georganiseerd met de hulp van het departement Saône-et-Loire, de gemeente en de winkeliers van Saint-Sernin, lazen we in de krant.
Waarom ben ik blij dat ik “erbij was” ?
Als je een evenement als dit wil organiseren is de publieke belangstelling het absolute nummer #1 ingrediënt om het tot een succes te maken. Al die mensen die nu thuis zijn gebleven omdat er geen Amerikaanse band op het programma stond zijn de verliezers, aan Cajun Muziek geen gebrek en Blue Bayou spelen altijd al een prima Zydeco dans ritme voor de balans tussen cajun en zydeo.
Het belangrijkste; “Er is een festival” !!
Op het moment dat de eerste plannen gesmeed werden was het helemaal nog niet zeker of een festival überhaupt doorgang kon vinden kon ik optekenen uit de mond van Didier. En zelf nu hoorden we dat de traditionele Festival Tour in Duitsland geen doorgang kon vinden, daarom te meer een groot “Chapeau” voor de gehele organisatie!
De tijdelijke camping lag op korte loopafstand van enkele honderden meters van het festival, zondag werden we bovendien nog verrast door een gezellige brocante. Er was op korte afstand de mogelijkheid te douchen en toilet. De locale winkel op 10 minuten loopafstand verzorgde het brood, dus het ontbrak de festival gangers aan niets, behalve, het gemis aan vrienden die men hier ook wel verwacht had, … eigenlijk.
